Saturday 07th March

DJ Dance Night. Dance the night away to the energy, sound and innocence of sweet 60’s soul music! As soul music turned into funk in the late-Sixties, disillusioned kids from the North of England fed up with the ‘pop’ scene began to turn their tastes backward, scouring the racks for rare Motown and Detroit soul they hadn't heard yet. Dave Godin, who ran the Soul City record shop in London, developed the term ‘Northern Soul’ in 1968 to refer to obscure soul being bought by fans from the North of the country. Manchester's Twisted Wheel club was the first to cater to this phenomenon, starting in 1963; by 1967, the Saturday "all-nighters" of up tempo rare soul had gained in popularity. So join us at the Tunnels with music provided by our resident DJ playing 45's from many labels like Staxs,  Atlantic, and or course Tamla Motown.Keep the faith!

With a career spanning four decades, Misty in Roots are one of England’s finest reggae groups. The band was one of the most powerful live reggae acts to emerge from 1970s London, and they were a major force in the Rock Against Racism movement. They are back in style in 2002 with a great new album on Real World Records. This British based Roots Reggae Band MISTY IN ROOTS have played together for the past 20 years, first coming together in 1975 and working as a backing band for the late, great Nicky Thomas - one of Jamaica's all time greats who had achieved national chart success with songs such as "Living In The Land Of The Common People". Nicky Thomas was the inspiration from which MISTY developed.

The Dualers are Britain’s much loved Ska and Reggae band from the South of England who have steadily built up a following of many thousands of truly dedicated fans. Brothers Simon and Tyber Cranstoun were introduced to music at a very early age by their father; Bill Cranstoun who was a local promoter of Jamaican music in the 1960’s and ran his Savoy Sound System at several locations in South London. They grew up with the sounds of The Blues Busters, Lord Creator, Stranger Cole, Bob Marley, The Skatalites, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding to name a few.
