The James Taylor Quartet

The James Taylor Quartet

Friday 26th May

James Taylor, one of the great British instrumentalists of his generation, has taken his trademark howling Hammond sound to the masses for over 25 years; still famed for its upbeat, energetic live shows...with no sign of slowing down. The band’s relentlessly entertaining tunes take inspiration from the rare-groove style funk, and boogaloo funk of the 60s and 70s and, the band is, without a doubt, one of the most important jazz-pop crossover outfits in British live musical history today.

Garry Tallent from The E Street Band w/Kevin Montgomery

Saturday 10th June

The longtime bassist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band will be the boss this May when Garry Tallent embarks on his first solo run. He, along with Nashville singer-songwriter Kevin Montgomery will be stopping by The Tunnels in Bristol with his 7 piece band featuring Americana favorites, Fats Kaplan and Kristi Rose. Often introduced during Springsteen’s mammoth E Street Band shows as the “Tennessee Terror,” Tallent was born in Detroit and grew up in New Jersey. The “Tennessee Terror” moniker supposedly came about following a drive through the Volunteer State. Tallent has an album to go along with his tour. The rockabilly-packed Break Time is available on vinyl and CD as well as via digital downloads. Break Time just might be an apt description of Tallent’s 2017 situation. A founding member of E Street, Tallent will be part of Springsteen’s Australia / New Zealand tour beginning next week and running through February. He will begin his tour of the UK/Ireland on May 25th. Montgomery’s mom sang with Elvis and Dad wrote songs like “Heartbeat” for Buddy Holly, and was his first musical partner. Montgomery has written songs for Martina McBride and sung on Lee Ann Womack records, and is a hardcore troubadour with four 50 States in 50 Days tours under his belt. Justin Townes Earle

Monday 26th June

Born in Nashville, Justin Townes Earle grew up as the son of country-rock iconoclast Steve Earle, who gave him his middle name in honour of the great Texas songwriter Townes Van Zandt. Quickly coming into his own as a songwriter and performer, he displayed a natural talent for deeply revealing lyrics that reflected his often-harsh life experiences with a musical approach that effortlessly integrated elements of blues, folk and country. Since launching his recording career, he has established a reputation as a singular leading light in the Americana music community.  His new album, Kids in the Street, raises the creative and personal stakes to deliver a deeply soulful set that's both emotionally riveting and effortlessly uplifting. Sam Baker is one of the finest songwriters to emerge from Texas, the home of great songwriters. Although the inevitable comparisons are made (Townes Van Zandt, Randy Newman and Lou Reed among others) Sam is most definitely his own man, drawing on his own experiences to relate songs of life, love, loss, suffering, joy and humour, told in customary droll style. An immense talent, and one of the nicest people around, Sam has a heart the size of his native state and he has rightly earned the devoted following and critical acclaim that he enjoys. Sam Outlaw and Band

Sam Outlaw and Band

Monday 24th July

Sam Outlaw burst onto the scene with his Ry Cooder produced debut album, Angelino, which had critics battling to find new superlatives to describe a perfect piece of twenty first century California country rock. Having friends in high places may help, but his follow up, Tenderheart, proves beyond doubt that Sam Outlaw’s extraordinary talent is all his own. Vividly portraying a dark streak in the State of eternal sunshine, the record is a tour de force and confirms the opinion made by the LA times that he’s “a contender to be the biggest country star L.A. has produced since Dwight Yoakam.” Here with his full band, this promises to be an unmissable show. There are no hipster affectations, just real from the heart music, handmade in the Southern Indiana hills, and they are 100% genuine. John Murry

Thursday 14th September

John Murry’s debut solo album The Graceless Age was given five stars by Uncut Magazine, and the Guardian called it a work of genius. A haunting testimony of a troubled life, broken dreams, sorrow and redemption, it was the masterpiece of Southern American gothic you’d expect from someone whose adoptive mother was Williams Faulkner’s cousin, and who was born in the same town as Elvis Presley. Its follow up, A Short History of Decay, is equally compelling – an intensely personal document of an artist's fall from grace. A hypnotically entrancing live performer, this is a show that can’t be missed.

Performing songs that can be funny, insightful, sensitive and hard-hitting, sometimes all at the same time, he’s one of the few contemporary musicians who can be fairly compared to old masters like Woody Guthrie. Simon McBride

Monday 13th November

“The Holy Trinity of Belfast rock ‘n roll – Van Morrison, Rory Gallagher & Gary Moore – might just be on the verge of becoming a four-leaf clover.” PERFORMER MAGAZINE USA   After back-pedalling on his solo career to start a family, Simon McBride “the man who everyone wants in their band” is back on the road with his own jet-fuelled outfit.   The turn of 2016 saw McBride touring with Ian Gillan, filling the shoes of Ritchie Blackmore in a programme of Deep Purple songs that played across Europe. The first half of 2017 has him touring with uber-keyboardist Don Airey (another member of Deep Purple), followed by an outing with Whitesnake offshoot, Snakecharmer.   With his band of fellow Irishmen Marty McCloskey (drums) and Dave Marks (bass) Simon delivers his own distinctive songs (“Hugely accomplished” MOJO) along with crowd-pleasers from the likes of Hendrix and Free plus of course, explosive guitar playing!   His guitar skills (“Among the best blues-rock players anywhere in the world” GUITARIST) have made him a go-to guitarist on the British Blues-rock scene, admired among professionals, followed by enthusiasts, and endorsed by some of the biggest brands on the guitar scene.   Rewind to the early nineties and you didn’t have to squint to spot future greatness in the unassuming kid from Belfast, who picked up his first guitar at ten, eschewing formal lessons to bend his fingers around the music of Free, Jeff Beck and Hendrix. At 16 he turned pro, leaving education behind to wow the world as a hired gun in projects that ranged from filling Vivian Campbell’s shoes in Sweet Savage, to R&B and soul with ex-Commitments vocalist Andrew Strong. Touring in his own right he has supported Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck and Joe Bonamassa and played major festivals around Europe.

Flash - A Tribute to Queen

Flash - A Tribute to Queen

Friday 08th December

FLASH – A Tribute to QUEEN; has been created and is performed with love and admiration for the late great Freddie Mercury and the musical legacy of Queen. A desire in each member to replicate what made queen so special and to bring back some of the live magic that made Queen the international super-group it is today.   Soon to enter their 45th year, Queen have amassed a huge back catalogue of hit records, there’s just so many to chose from and it’s hard work constructing a show that captures Queen’s creative history in such a short amount of stage time but we guarantee the show to be a none stop jukebox of the very best of Queen, hit after hit, anthem after anthem, with audience participation at a high from the very start.   All Flash band members have been creatively and technically inspired by Queen, each taking satisfaction and pride in producing this ultimate tribute to Queen each playing replica equipment adding that little extra sound characteristic and all performed in authentic costumes making it a show to remember.

Chantel McGregor

Chantel McGregor

Sunday 10th December

A female guitar prodigy, at fourteen Chantel was told by major labels that she had a "great voice, but girls don't play guitar like that!"  Wisely ignoring the comments, she enrolled at the Leeds College of Music and became the first student in the college’s history, to achieve a 100% pass mark, with 18 distinctions.  Chantel left with a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music and a coveted prize, the college’s musician of the year award.   In previous years, Chantel stepped out in the pro-musician world and her stunning live performances demonstrated that she had the ability to perform rock for the new age, played by a musician born with an effortless virtuosity.  Since then, she has built a loyal and growing fan base who follow her every move.   If you measure an artist’s prospects by the company they keep, then Chantel has been moving in the right direction. Early in her career, Chantel was invited to perform with Joe Bonamassa, on two of his UK tours.    When Chantel released her 2011 debut album, Like No Other, one critic said, “Chantel McGregor deserves to be held up as a messiah of blues-rock and given her own mountain. She doesn't strum or pick her guitar but almost bends and distorts it, as if she's channelling the ghost of Hendrix through her fingers"     The album was produced by Livingstone Brown, whose production credits include Ed Sheeran, Robin Trower, and Shakira. The end result was a beautifully crafted debut album that showcased Chantel’s versatility and talent as a singer-songwriter.     Chantel’s follow up album, Like Control, again produced by Livingstone Brown, was released in October 2015 to critical acclaim.
