Flash - A Tribute to Queen

Flash - A Tribute to Queen

Friday 08th December

FLASH – A Tribute to QUEEN; has been created and is performed with love and admiration for the late great Freddie Mercury and the musical legacy of Queen. A desire in each member to replicate what made queen so special and to bring back some of the live magic that made Queen the international super-group it is today.   Soon to enter their 45th year, Queen have amassed a huge back catalogue of hit records, there’s just so many to chose from and it’s hard work constructing a show that captures Queen’s creative history in such a short amount of stage time but we guarantee the show to be a none stop jukebox of the very best of Queen, hit after hit, anthem after anthem, with audience participation at a high from the very start.   All Flash band members have been creatively and technically inspired by Queen, each taking satisfaction and pride in producing this ultimate tribute to Queen each playing replica equipment adding that little extra sound characteristic and all performed in authentic costumes making it a show to remember.

Chantel McGregor

Chantel McGregor

Sunday 10th December

A female guitar prodigy, at fourteen Chantel was told by major labels that she had a "great voice, but girls don't play guitar like that!"  Wisely ignoring the comments, she enrolled at the Leeds College of Music and became the first student in the college’s history, to achieve a 100% pass mark, with 18 distinctions.  Chantel left with a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music and a coveted prize, the college’s musician of the year award.   In previous years, Chantel stepped out in the pro-musician world and her stunning live performances demonstrated that she had the ability to perform rock for the new age, played by a musician born with an effortless virtuosity.  Since then, she has built a loyal and growing fan base who follow her every move.   If you measure an artist’s prospects by the company they keep, then Chantel has been moving in the right direction. Early in her career, Chantel was invited to perform with Joe Bonamassa, on two of his UK tours.    When Chantel released her 2011 debut album, Like No Other, one critic said, “Chantel McGregor deserves to be held up as a messiah of blues-rock and given her own mountain. She doesn't strum or pick her guitar but almost bends and distorts it, as if she's channelling the ghost of Hendrix through her fingers"     The album was produced by Livingstone Brown, whose production credits include Ed Sheeran, Robin Trower, and Shakira. The end result was a beautifully crafted debut album that showcased Chantel’s versatility and talent as a singer-songwriter.     Chantel’s follow up album, Like Control, again produced by Livingstone Brown, was released in October 2015 to critical acclaim.   Support from The Luke Doherty Band The award winning Blues Rock Guitarist, Luke Doherty, started playing Festivals when he was twelve years old, and 10 years later, he hasn’t looked back. After achieving a Rock School first, 2 grade 8’s by the age of 11, it lead to many Newspaper and Radio interviews. While Luke was Ploughing his was through his grades, he was encouraged to record his version of Parisian Walkways of which Gary Moore had a copy. Luke has gone on to play numerous Festivals, Blues Clubs and Music Venues up and down the Country, including the Legendary Cambridge Rock Festival, 100 club London and Upton Blues Festival, to name a few.

Fronted by Texan vocalist and songwriter Jessica Clemmons, they’ve set the Americana scene alight over the last few years, winning awards and acclaim galore. High octane country rock of the finest type, with blast furnace vocals and unforgettable songs, their début album, Here We Go Again, was described by Nashville Over Here as “A fun, melodic roller coaster mix of country rock and ballads”, and by Gay Times as “Like Shania at her trashiest or a whiskey-drunk Kelly Clarkson, these songs have the swagger of bad women and even worse men.” Their new release Smoke and Mirrors takes over where the last one left off, and confirms their reputation as one of the brightest bands around.

It also saw the release of the poignant & topical single ‘Run For Your Life’, which has picked up regular international airplay and showcases the evolving strength and depth of the bands song writing. The Simmertones’ previous biggest hit to date was a cool cover version of the well-known classic 'Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps' (which contains samples of 'Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps' by Doris Day under licence from Sony Music Entertainment).  This was hugely successful for the band, with repeated airplay on BBC radio stations. In particular, Steve Lamacq added the song to his playlist and gave it several airings, including prime time airplay on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music. Further airplay was attained in the United States and internationally.

Secret Sisters

Secret Sisters

Tuesday 27th March

The Secret Sisters, Laura and Lydia Rogers,  are the first to admit that their career has had its ups and downs, ranging from complete obscurity to touring with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, from the universal adulation that their self titled debut album created to being dropped by their record company, law suits with their former manager and filing for bankruptcy. However, nothing can keep their irrepressible spirits down for long, and the darker days are definitely over with the release of their new album, You Don’t Own Me Anymore,  produced by Brandi Carlile. A tour de force, it confirms the widely held view that they are the best sibling act since the Everly Brothers. Haunting and gorgeous in equal measures, with harmonies from heaven, it finally proves that the Secret Sisters are here to stay.

Rod Picott

Rod Picott

Friday 30th March

Decades ago, during his sheet rock days, Picott promised himself that he wouldn't release an album until he figured out who he was as a writer. Having a good voice wasn't enough; he needed an opinion, a perspective, an ability to turn the world around him into music. With Fortune, he shines a light on himself, strips bare what he found rattling around in his heart and invites the listener to follow a deeper and more intimate journey.

Ian Siegal

Ian Siegal

Monday 16th April

In more than a quarter century of touring Ian Siegal’s mission statement has barely changed: songs that are real, shows that resonate, vocals served raw. Today he is considered by many to be the most compelling British blues artiste since the great names of the sixties.   In 2018 he will be touring a new album, his first studio recording of new songs in six years. Produced by American Jimbo Mathus, it is classic Siegal. Every song written or co-written by Siegal and full of the dark and light, clever word play and rough-hewn voicebox he is known for. It also marks the first studio recording with the band he hooked up with in 2013. Frequent touring has evolved a distinctive sound featuring Dusty Ciggaar’s tex-mex infused guitar licks.   Classic Rock tags Siegal “a national treasure,” America’s blues bible says “vast talent” and MOJO magazine ranks him “the cleverest writer and most magnetic blues performer in the UK.” He has taken his music to more than 45 countries and presided over a trophy haul that includes 11 British Blues Awards, three European Blues Awards, two Mojo Blues Albums Of The Year not to mention three US Blues Music Awards nominations - an unprecedented nod for a non-American.   And yet, for all the dizzying achievements in the rear-view mirror, the most important part of any Siegal chronology is always the next show, the next song and the next great record.
