An Evening With Mary Gauthier

An Evening With Mary Gauthier

Tuesday 08th May

From a troubled adolescence that continues to inform her often confessional material, through a series of outstanding releases with songs covering topics such as abandonment, alcoholism, homelessness and capital punishment, An Evening With Mary Gauthier sounds like no fun at all. The truth couldn't be more different. She is one of the most highly accomplished and respected singer songwriters in the world, and although her subject material may be dark and provocative, her essential warmth, humour and humanity constantly shines through and her live performances are absolutely captivating. Her latest record, Rifles and Rosary Beads, is her most important yet. Co-written with U.S. veterans and their families, the eleven deeply personal songs on this album reveal the untold stories, and powerful struggles that these veterans and their spouses deal with abroad and after returning home. More than a collection of thoughtful songs, this is a testament to the fact that music can literally save lives. “Her razor-sharp eye for detail and her commitment to unsentimental self-reflection puts her in a class with greats such as Kris Kristofferson, John Prine and yes, Bob Dylan.” – Los Angeles Times. John Wheeler (Hayseed Dixie) Solo Tour

Wednesday 09th May

Have a drink with me!  Reflections on the past 18 years of Rockgrass mayhem.   Finding himself still alive, having failed to die from small pox, pancreatic cancer, or liver failure, The Hayseed Dixie frontman brings a new show for 2018 that draws from the last 18 years on the road. Featuring songs and stories spanning the career of Hayseed Dixie and John's solo records the show is by turns humorous, irreverent, sardonic and absurd - just like life on the road. John's playing a plugged in electric guitar and is joined by percussionist Pete Robbins, so this ain't no soul searching shoe gazing evening. Come drink a few beers with them and rock your face off.

The Deep Dark Woods

The Deep Dark Woods

Tuesday 15th May

The Deep Dark Woods need little introduction to fans of American Music. With material like The Place I Left Behind and The Banks of the Leopold Canal their impeccable musicianship and hauntingly lyrical songs have earned comparisons with The Band, with whom they share a Canadian background and a love of all traditional American music.   Their new record, Yarrow, takes Southern Gothic to a new level, a celebration of the dark and weird – surreal murder ballads and spooky love songs seen through the eyes of frontman Ryan Boldt’s fevered and sometimes macabre imagination.

Elles Bailey

Elles Bailey

Thursday 31st May

Elles Bailey has a talent for crafting and seamlessly weaving rootsy blues, country, and soulful rock, with a contemporary edge. What’s more fate has blessed her with a ‘smoky vocal’ style that perfectly fits her music, after a stint in hospital as a child changed her voice forever. Her debut album Wildfire (Sept 1st 2017) which debuted at no.2 in the iTunes blues Charts was tracked in Blackbird studios Tennessee. Produced by Brad Nowell ‘Wildfire’ assembled a host of Nashville’s finest, including Grammy Award winning guitarist Brent Mason and three-time ‘Musician Hall Of Famer’ Bobby Wood. Blended together back in the UK with the likes of Jonny Henderson (Robyn Ford, Matt Schofield) on Hammond organ and Joe Wilkins on blistering guitar, the result is a unique trans-Atlantic coming together of styles. Reviewers have been wowed by Elles and her debut album with Maverick Magazine gave ‘Wildfire’ top marks (5/5) calling every song ‘Fresh & Original’ And Blues In Britain reminding us that ‘It’s a fact that very few make it to the big stage but Elles Bailey has the necessary talent, the drive, and now the product.’

For The Record & Friends

For The Record & Friends

Friday 21st September

For the Record are a professional events band with a difference!  Their two female lead singers are bang on-trend with a sublime blend of harmonies, performing all the best well-known tunes to keep the dance floor going all night long.   Established in 2015 from a group of good mates, each member is a first class musician, and their mantra of ‘always live’ means there are no pre-recorded sections.  The rhythm section consists of keys, drums, guitar and bass, with each member on the top of their game and their well-rehearsed approach ensures a tight and dynamic performance.   Keep an eye out for their signature medleys (seamless string of tracks inventively stitched together). -------- Two Way Stretch are a five piece who have only recently started to play gigs on a more regular basis.  Roger (guitar), Paul (bass) and I have been getting together regularly for at least ten years with two other friends and playing at the occasional party.  One of those friends moved to Exmouth and the other dropped out about a year ago so we began looking around for replacements.  Den (guitar) came into the shop and during conversation mentioned that his previous band was no more which led me to suggest that he come to a rehearsal - he brought Geoff (keyboards) along too and since then we have become a bit more ambitious about looking for opportunities to play live. -------- The Upside Down Kinks are the ultimate tribute to The Kinks. Their seasoned proffessional musicianship keeps the stories behing the music of the legendary band alive! Tickets £10 adv

Hogjaw

Hogjaw

Thursday 18th October

For over 10 years now, Hogjaw has continued to immerse themselves in music that they completely believe in. Music that defies the boundaries of country, and rock, perhaps more aligning themselves squarely in what they believe to be southern rock, or at least what they figure that genre should sound like in 2017. Since the early beginnings, their music has reflected the personal experiences and flavor of life that all members still enjoy. Hogjaw is a family. A family that started in the late 1980’s with a gr oup of guys in high school who began to play music together, learned their craft together, and became what would inevitably become lifelong friends. Over the years, band projects would come and go, members would change, and new directions would be taken, but the underlying connection of that family was never lost.

DAN PATLANSKY – PERFECTION KILLS MARCH 2018 UK TOUR

DAN PATLANSKY – PERFECTION KILLS MARCH 2018 UK TOUR

Friday 30th November

Patlansky was nominated as one of Classic Rock magazine’s hotly tipped new artists of 2015. His album, Dear Silence Thieves received accolades and praise from the British press. He’s been voted Most Promising Male Blues Artist by Blues & Soul Magazine, and only recently has he been nominated as Best International Solo Artist at the Planet Rock Radio ‘Rocks’ Awards.   Perfection Kills was recorded at Scherzo Productions, a recording studio in Dan’s home town of Pretoria, South Africa. Dan chose Scherzo because he wanted to make a different sounding record and he felt it was the right studio for his vision.   Patlansky produced the album himself, something he hadn’t done in years. Says Dan, “I learnt so much working with Theo Crous who was the producer on previous two albums Dear Silence Thieves and Introvertigo. I worked on pre-production and song writing with Theo on a couple of the tracks for Perfection Kills and applied what I learnt to the recording and production process of the album.”   Perfection Kills is all about my vision of making a record that still make the song writing a priority as in the past, the final product delivers a far more real and organic result.”
