The Mods came about just over two years ago during a discussion between frontman Johnny Warman and the band's promoter Pete Feenstra.
Johnny Warman grew up watching the Mods and Rockers on TV, and as a true Mod still adores playing the songs he enjoyed from such an exciting youth. The original line up was Johnny on vocals, Rhino Edwards on Bass, Spike Edney on keyboards and guitar, Steve Byrd on lead guitar and Johnny Marter on Drums.
Their first major gig was The Stevie Marriott Memorial Concert at The Astoria in London on 20th April 2001. During discussions with Jerry Shirley (Humble Pie's Drummer) it was decided that they would do 4 numbers, with Steve Ellis (Love Affair) singing on three of the tracks.
On the day of the gig The Mods arrived for the soundcheck and chaos, with everyone trying to see Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher and other assorted 'faces' getting it together. Johnny had not seen Paul for nearly 20 years since back in 1978 when he had become friends with not only the Jam, but also Paul Weller's family. After a quick chat with Paul Weller, The Mods went on to do their soundcheck and the rest was history!
